We have a variety of additional training and information resources available to support hospital colleagues (a full list can be found under the Resources page):
Virtual Training
Our virtual training courses are delivered via Zoom, and can be accessed using any computer with an internet connection. Delegates should check they can access Zoom prior to booking a place.
Virtual Courses: How much does it cost?
We will be introducing training credits for virtual courses from the 1st of October 2020. Each hospital is entitled to 6 virtual training credits per financial year to be used for any of our virtual training courses, with any additional places to be chargeable as below:
- Foundation course - £95
- Reporting & Refresher course - £50
Trust or Network level virtual training courses are available on request; virtual training credits can be used for these courses, with additional places charged for as above. Please email support@tarn.ac.uk if you are interested in organising a Trust or Network event.
The structure of the virtual courses is as follows:
- Foundation Session

- Inclusion Criteria & Identifying Cases
- Quality Assurance: Case Ascertainment & Data Accreditation
- Data Entry System Demonstration (optional)
- Additional Resource: Self-guided data entry exercise
- Reporting & Data Validation Session
12.25-16.00
- Data Quality & Validation
- Measuring Trauma Outcomes: ISS, Probability of Survival (Ps) & Hospital Survival Rate (Ws)
- Reviewing National Targets
- Published Reports: Dashboards & Clinical Reports

Regular Training Courses
Regular TARN training courses are held at locations in Manchester and London.
- The Foundation course is aimed solely at those who are new to TARN. This course will provide all the basic information that is required to begin the data collection process.
- The Reporting & Refresher course includes a morning data entry refresher session and an afternoon report focused session; delegates will be welcome to attend one or both sessions.
Which course should I attend?
- Foundation course: if you are new to TARN and involved in data entry &/or identifying cases.
- Reporting & Refresher course: if you have previously attended a Data collection or Foundation course; if you have been involved in TARN data entry for some time; you use the TARN data &/or reports but do not enter data
How much does it cost?
Each hospital is entitled to 4 training credits per financial year to be used for any of our regularly scheduled in person training courses, with any additional places to be chargeable as below:
- Foundation course - £130
- Reporting & Refresher course - £75
Trust or Network level ad-hoc training courses are available on request and will be charged at a rate of £525 per course, plus TARN travel expenses.
